Community Mechanic

The Community Mechanic course is for people involved in community bike workshops as volunteers or organisers. It will discuss and show the most common jobs in this environment. I have been involved since 2018 in the Mt Roskill Bike Kitchen/Hub, so know what happens in this environment and how to be more efficient and productive. However before then I was already doing this type of training for Auckland Transport. Importantly I will also show you what NOT to do because it is very easy to spend hours on a bike not worth doing up. Everyone’s time is precious, and it is very unsatisfying to work on a bike for a long time, to end up with a bike nobody will enjoy riding. These type of bikes need stripping for parts and sustainable disposal.

It is no problem if people have different skill levels, I have been doing these courses for years and cope easily with the variations, so that everyone leaves with a much improved knowledge level.
